Sisterhood Speaks – September 2018

A Word from Sisterhood

Ellie Zamos, Sisterhood Co-President

What does September mean to you? Does it make you think of a new year, the end of summer and vacations, High Holy Days and a time to be with family? September and Labor Day remind me of back to school. It used to remind me it was time to go back to work, no more lazy summer days and sleeping late. Now retired, every day is a vacation day, and I can sleep late if I choose. That is a good feeling, but eventually that can become boring and even depressing. I like to keep busy and try to do something every day. For me, Sisterhood became my focus after I retired. It was my turn to contribute something to TBE. Maybe you are looking for something to do and are not sure just what. Think about Sisterhood. There are several ways you can lend a hand.

Mary Cohn, Sisterhood gift shop manager and buyer, is looking for a few more volunteers for Friday nights and some Sunday mornings. It’s fun to work in the gift shop. The shop is lovely, with some unique and beautiful Judaica. It is also a great way to meet the congregants. Call Mary if this interests you.

Another opportunity for you to volunteer is the Oneg Committee. Did you know Sisterhood provides all the food and drinks for the Oneg Shabbat each week unless someone is celebrating a special occasion? Sisterhood also keeps the kitchen pantry stocked with the needed staples. Someone must shop for these items. On Friday, trays need to be assembled and tables made ready for serving challah, wine, desserts, coffee and tea. Maybe you like to bake. No special talent needed, just a willingness to give a couple of hours of your time. Let Reva Skoll know if you would like to help.

When you sent in your Sisterhood dues, did you complete the trifold where it asks where you would like to participate? Hope you did. We do look at the returned cut-off. This is a guide when making the Circles (committees) for the coming year. One of our most popular events is Mah Jongg Day, which this year is scheduled for Thursday, November 8th. Marilyn Schimmel never disappoints and it is such an enjoyable day with great food, the sound of clicking tiles, and prizes to be won. Sisterhood and TBE have programs and events every month just waiting for you to join in the fun.
