Last week’s Torah portion describing the flood of Noah, and the ark which offered security from the rising waters, teaching values of goodness over evil and the obligation to preserve life – was a story. In Florida, however, it was real, as Hurricane Michael washed away whole communities. But, where is the ark to provide safety? We can help be that ark.
Temple Beth El is collecting financial donations, and we will forward the sum to agencies assisting in disaster relief. If you would like to contribute, either send your check to the Temple attention Hurricane Relief,
or VENMO @ Temple Beth El, San Pedro
Deadline to contribute: This Friday, October 19.

Dear Temple Beth El Family,
A new movie, titled Bigger, just opened in theaters last Friday, which has strong Jewish content. It depicts the story of the Weider brothers from Montreal, and how they overcame Antisemitism and their own poverty to establish the body-building, supplement and gym industry in America. And, aside from the big Hollywood stars in the movie,
a Temple Beth El figure had a role in the movie – note the final scene, on the “bema/stage” – and the credits!
We think you will enjoy going to see Bigger!
As well, because of the theme of the movie, the opening Taus Lecture in a few weeks will be the expert on this theme, Dr. Sharon Gillerman, addressing “Muscular Judaism!” Plan to attend!
Enjoy!

Help TBE’s Caring Community
Caring for one another is our obligation as Jews. By responding to the calls of our fellow TBE members is a way for each of us to reply “Hineini” here I am.
The Caring Committee reaches out to congregants when there has been a death in the family, when a ride is needed for a medical procedure, or a meal after a hospital stay.
But Without You, We Are One Volunteer Short!
The Caring Community invites you to help us realize our goal of having every congregant be a member of our Caring Community. The Caring Community is an unusual committee, because to be a “member,” you only need to be a member of TBE. When we are made aware of a congregant in need you will receive an email from a Caring Community chair, asking for your help. Please respond if you can, when we perform a mitzvah for others, we strengthen them, our entire community and ourselves.
To join the committee or for more information, please contact Gail Burch.
