School Year Beginnings
Randi Sher, Director of Education
So much has happened over the last month and everyone has worked together to bring us to where we are now. I know I am lucky to be working with the TBE staff (Rabbi, Cantor, Carrie, Shoni and Doris), the Torah School Staff (Lisa, Michelle, Barbara, Hadas, and Jessica) and the parents (Dani, Jacob, Keith, Rachel, and Rosa) who make up the Board of Education. It takes a village to raise a child and I believe to educate one as well.
Since Torah School started, which was just over a month ago, we have looked at and adjusted little bits of our COVID protocols and welcomed our students into the building. We have our returning students and have also welcomed two new families to the school and the congregation so far. The sounds of happy students engaged in learning and excited to be together ring through the building, it is wonderful to hear!
With Cantor Ilan’s knowledge of technology and where things are stored in the building, we are able to Zoom students into all five Sunday classes at the same time. This was a HUGE step in helping families feel less stressed by removing the drive and ensuring that if a student needs to quarantine due to something from their secular school, they can still be part of Torah School virtually.
We are excited to be starting Naor (our program for post B’Mitzvah students) this Sunday, October 3rd. Classes meet from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm following Teen Choir rehearsal which is from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. All Naor classes are taught by Rabbi Cassi or Cantor Ilan. What a wonderful opportunity for the teens!
We have a larger group of madrichim this year and it is amazing to watch their enthusiasm as it travels to the students they are working with. If your teen has not signed up but would like to volunteer it is not too late. Please let me know if your teen would like to join us. Madrichim can receive community service hours for their work.
