Torah School Camp Weekend

Welcome to Torah School 5773

Camp Weekend

A weekend retreat at a Los Angeles-area camp is a 40 year tradition of our Torah School. This year, we will be at camp from Friday, November 30 - Sunday, December 2, 2012.

This year we will be at Camp Max Straus, owned and operated by Jewish Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and nestled in the verdant foothills of the Verdugo Mountains above Glendale. The theme for the weekend is Holiday or Holy Day? Our theme as stated is deliberately vague. The campers will find out exactly what our program will be about during our Friday evening program. Suffice to say for now, we will explore the issues of assimilation, faith, strength, and fighting for principles, among others.

Students in grades 3 through 10 spend the weekend with Rabbi Briskin, Cantor Davidson, Debi Rowe, and their teachers in a relaxed and fun camp setting. It has also been a tradition that college-age students from our synagogue who grew up with Camp Weekend as part of their curriculum return as cabin counselors for the program. Students in our tenth grade Confirmation Class act as CITs.

Please collect and have your child bring to camp, CLEAN metal jar lids or bottle caps. (Think of Prego, Ragu, Snapple, olives, pickles,
BBQ sauce, etc.) We will be using them in a group art project. No plastic, please! Please bring no more than 10 per child!!!! Thanks!

Camp Weekend is an integral part of our school experience. As such, it is a required element of attendance. All students in grades 3 through 10 are expected to attend.
